SageTech Veterinary’s multidisciplinary team has developed an innovative anaesthetic gas capture solution, which is now available for veterinary practices.
SageTech Veterinary reports that this solution supports a circular economy model as it safely captures the available volatile anaesthetic agents (sevoflurane and isoflurane) onto a reusable capture canister (VET-Can) that is housed inside a capture device (VET-Dock). The Vet-Dock integrates easily into existing anaesthetic equipment, and once full, VET-Cans are then collected via wholesalers and reused.
The solution has a unique system that eliminates risk by constant monitoring of volatile capture, leading to alerts when full and providing a safer working environment for clinical staff, and then safe disposal routes. The extracted agents can then be purified and recycled for potential future clinical reuse (subject to regulatory approval). This will reduce the need for virgin drug manufacture in the future and help to conserve raw materials, therefore further lowering the carbon footprint associated with volatile anaesthetics.
SageTech Veterinary is a company focused on the research, design, manufacture and distribution of cutting-edge, proprietary technologies for the capture and recycling of waste volatile anaesthetic agents.
Dr Matt Gopal BSc MA VetMB MRCVS, Head of Stakeholder Engagement said “The team at SageTech Veterinary and I are extremely excited to see this technology being adopted by practices wishing to significantly decrease their carbon footprint with a single technology. Since our launch in June we have over 170 installations booked and are actively progressing further bookings for the months ahead. I believe that uptake of this technology demonstrates that the veterinary profession is taking responsibility for it’s climate impact with each participating practice potentially decreasing their Carbon Footprint by up to 20%”
